DroidDeck vs Steam Link — Native Play vs Streaming
Both put "Steam on your Android device", but they solve different problems.
| DroidDeck | Steam Link | |
|---|---|---|
| How games run | Locally on the device via ARM64 Proton | Streamed from a PC on your network |
| Needs a gaming PC | No | Yes — a decent one, running Steam |
| Needs Adreno GPU | Yes (730+/8xx, 6xx experimental) | No — any Android 6+ device works |
| Game library limits | Whatever Proton on ARM64 can run | Your full PC library |
| Works offline | Yes | No — needs the host PC and network |
| Performance depends on | Your phone/handheld chip | Your PC and Wi-Fi quality |
Verdict
If you own a supported Snapdragon handheld and want to play away from your PC — commute, travel, couch — DroidDeck is the only option of the two. If your device is unsupported (Mali/Tensor/Exynos) or you want to play demanding AAA titles, Steam Link streaming still delivers far more games at higher fidelity, as long as you stay on good Wi-Fi. Many people use both: Steam Link at home, DroidDeck on the go.
