DroidDeck vs Winlator — Two Ways to Run Windows Games on Android
Both run Windows games locally on Android without streaming. The difference is the interface and the translation stack.
| DroidDeck | Winlator | |
|---|---|---|
| Approach | Valve's native ARM64 Steam client + ARM64 Proton (Linux layer) | Wine + Box64 translation running directly on Android |
| Interface | Steam Big Picture / SteamOS-style full UI | Standard Android app with per-game containers |
| Store integration | Steam (plus GOG/Epic in v0.4.0) | Manual — you provide game files |
| GPU support | Adreno only (Turnip Vulkan drivers) | Adreno-focused, broader device coverage |
| Controller handling | Native Steam Input with Deck emulation and gyro | Manual input mapping per game |
| Maturity | Very new (first release Sept 2026) | Established, large community, long tweak history |
Verdict
DroidDeck is the cleaner experience: a real Steam interface, store integration, and Valve's own Proton stack instead of a community Wine build — if your device has an Adreno 730+. Winlator remains the more mature and flexible choice for older Adreno devices and for playing games outside store clients. If DroidDeck supports your device, try it first; fall back to Winlator for games that don't cooperate.
